Frosted Animal Cookies with an Orange Creamsicle twist!
Let me start by saying I am so in love with these cookies! And not just because they’re delicious, and completely addictive, and bring me right back to childhood….which they do…..but because they’re just SO FUN! They make me feel like a kid again as I stuff one after another into my mouth….and they make me feel like I should be having fun at an amusement park or festival somewhere (anywhere there’s a carousel)!
Speaking of carousels, last summer we decided to take our kids on a fun little day trip to an amusement park called Bay Beach, where tickets are just 25 cents each and $20 will buy you a day’s worth of fun. As soon as we set foot in the park, we spotted the carousel (score!), the concession stands, the Scrambler, and, off in the distance, the Zippin Pippin. So much fun awaited us! Except for one thing.
Apparently, only one of our kids really likes rides! It didn’t take long for us to figure this out…..in fact, it became perfectly clear RIGHT in the middle of the very first ride. As Greta clung to me and Nora screamed through it, we could tell this was going to be one loooooong day. Luckily, Ellia was totally in her element and wanted to try everything! And, as the day went on, Greta progressed from toddler rides she barely fit into, to being okay (maybe even having fun?) on some of the tamer regular rides.
As for Nora? All I can say is thank goodness for the carousel. It was her best friend that day….(and ours too!) It kept her occupied and (somewhat) content while her sisters got braver and braver on the rest of the rides. Ellia even ventured onto the Zippin Pippin – her first roller coaster – and loved it! All in all, I think we’re glad we went. Although it may be a few years before we try it again. My only regret is that we didn’t have any of these delicious cookies along with us….because as much as the carousel occupied Nora’s attention, I’m pretty sure Orange Creamsicle Frosted Animal {Carousel} Cookies would have done better! Half orange flavored and half vanilla , they are the perfect flavor combination for kids and adults, alike! And they would have been perfect for Nora that day. Oh well….live and learn. And then wait to go back!

These are awesome Cathy!! Do they even sell the original frosted animal crackers anymore? I haven’t seen them in ages, and I bet your flavor combination is even better than theirs. 🙂

Great cookie idea! I always loved the pink iced animal crackers best as a kid. 🙂 As for rides….My daughter always loved the wilder and crazier the better. She is my daredevil, try anything once girl. My son developed a fear of heights and speed on a ferris wheel at age 2. At 21 he still avoids rides (especially roller coasters) and heights. I think people are just born riders or nonriders. 🙂 Does make family outings more challenging!

Love all your recipes. However there is one comment …do not double space the recipes.
This takes too much paper and ink. Thanks, Mary

Hi Mary,
Just out of curiosity – is this one double spaced?? I have never purposely double spaced a recipe, but some of my old ones automatically formatted funny when I switched from Blogger to WordPress. Let me know if it is all recipes or just the old ones (before I started using recipe cards). Thanks!!
