Not your basic cranberry sauce! This Orange Spiced Cranberry Sauce combines tart cranberries and sweet oranges together with warm fall spices for a Thanksgiving side dish that’s sure to please a crowd!
I love Thanksgiving dinner because it’s so predictable. You know exactly what to look forward to. And since most items on the menu are really things we ONLY eat on Thanksgiving, they feel like a real treat! But….since I am who I am…..I also love to tinker with different variations of each dish each year
Lately, I’ve had a special place in my heart for all things orange. Which is why I knew I had to incorporate oranges into the meal this year and make this Orange Spiced Cranberry Sauce.
Unlike most recipes that combine cranberry and orange, this recipe uses entire orange segments instead of just the juice or zest. The end result is a distinctively ORANGE flavor that balances out the cranberries so beautifully!
what you’ll love about this recipe
You’ll love how the orange segments combine with the cranberries for a deliciously balanced, flavorful sauce. Since this recipe also uses orange juice concentrate, it’s infused with orange flavor throughout every bite!
what you’ll need for this recipe
Orange juice concentrate – I used one 12 ounce can of frozen orange juice concentrate, which I thawed in advance. This provides the liquid and adds a deliciously sweet orange flavor to the sauce.
Sugar – In addition to the orange juice, I added 3/4 cup of granulated sugar for sweetness. Feel free to adjust the amount OR substitute brown sugar according to your tastes.
Cranberries – I used two 12 ounce bags of whole fresh cranberries. This does make a larger batch, so feel free to cut it in half for a smaller group.
Oranges – To the cranberries I added 4 whole oranges, which I peeled and segmented.
Spices – For spice I used 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon, cloves, and allspice. Feel free to substitute pumpkin pie spice if you prefer.
how to make orange spiced cranberry sauce

Add the cranberries, oranges & spices. Add the cranberries, orange segments and spices; reduce heat to simmer and continue cooking 8 minutes or until the cranberries burst.
Cool & chill. Cool slightly; then chill, covered, in refrigerator. *Can be made up to 2 days in advance.

Yum! This looks delcious! I usually make a cranberry/orange relish for the holidays but this looks like something that would appeal to EVERYONE so I think I’ll give this a try on November 28th – mix it up a little. Thanks Cathy!

I missed having an occasionally drink while pregnant too. Especially during the holidays. But the good news is that you can enjoy all this yummy food and know that it helps your baby grow big and strong! This sauce looks delightful my friend!

This looks delicious. Does it need to be served in a bowl (it looks soupy) or is it think enough to withstand sitting on your plate?
